Lucy Meowkin (1990? - 2008) was Pamela's "angel kitty." Abandoned by her previous owners when they moved, Pamela discovered Lucy wandering the neighborhood where she had just bought a new house, and the two of them moved into the new place together that very first night.
Lucy had stunningly beautiful fur, and the softest paws a cat could have. She was always very much the lady; she was always gentle and unassuming, except when it came to making sure that she wasn't forgotten when Pamela brought home roast beef or chicken tenders.
She loved to play tag with Pamela, and would roll over to show her belly for tummy rubs whenever a family member walked by. She also adored rolling on Todd's unwashed shirts almost as much as she enjoyed playing with catnip.
She was everything a cat should be, but rarely is. She was an irreplacable part of the lives of the humans, dogs, and other cats in her life, and she is already missed.
Lucy had successfully battled a long-term illness (due to either small-cell lymphoma or advanced irritable bowel disease) for several years. A combination of raw food, drug therapy, and a spirit too big for such a small cat had given her a good quality of life long after traditional veterinary medicine had said would be likely.
Nevertheless, age and illness eventually caught up with Lucy. Despite the love she shared with her humans, and her amazing courage to fight on, there came a day where Lucy assured her people that she was ready to lay down her burdens.
No one is ever quite ready to say goodbye, and so Lucy spent one last day helping her beloved humans to accept the inevitable. And because her human companions loved her so much, they gave her the best possible day that they could.
Lap time, belly rubs, and soft touches were shared in abundance. Lucy also spent some quiet time contemplating the birds, and even got to feel the wind in her fur and the sun on her face as she rested in the back yard she had previously only seen through the windows. It was, to the very best of our ability, a chance to reaffirm the bond we shared, and an opportunity to celebrate life with her.

It is still not easy to say goodbye. Thank you, Lucy, for having the gentle grace to help us to do so. Your quiet dignity on this day will stay with us forever.
Sleep well.
